Plasma Control and Non-Equilibrium Chemicals and Materials Manufacturing*

With the rapid increase of renewable electricity, non-equilibrium plasma provides a promising solution to the challenges of sustainable manufacturing of chemicals and materials as well as the large intermittency of renewable electricity. In this talk, a concept of plasma thermal chemical instability as well as experimental and theoretical validation will be presented. A ferroelectric electrode is introduced to control plasma generation, electric field, afterglow, and instability. A few examples of control of plasma generation and vibrational excitation for ammonia synthesis and new material manufacturing will be highlighted. Opportunities of plasma aided e-fuels and materials manufacturing will be discussed.
