Exploring Molecular Dynamics and Corehole Localization in Dichloroethene after L-Edge Photoionization*

The interaction between light and matter is a fundamental phenomenon, crucial to many areas of physics. However, understanding the complex dynamics involved in molecular photoionization and photofragmentation remains a significant challenge for both experimental and theoretical methods. The COLd Target Recoil Ion Momentum Spectroscopy (COLTRIMS) technique has been developed to probe these many-particle dynamics in small molecules. By measuring the 3D momentum vectors of all charged particles produced during ionization and fragmentation, this technique allows researchers to reconstruct the spatial orientation of the molecule at the moment of ionization. These insights are then used to explore the molecular dynamics of the system. A key tool for analyzing these dynamics is the Molecular Frame Photoelectron Angular Distribution (MFPAD), which provides a sensitive map of electron emission in relation to the molecular geometry. This talk will present results from several recent experimental studies, including unpublished data on the photoionization of 1,1-dichloroethene (C2H2Cl2) from the Cl 2p orbital, where evidence of corehole localization is observed in specific molecular configurations.
