Experiments with magnetically trapped atoms in microgravity*

Ultracold atoms experiments provide a power platform for studying fundamental phenomena. For certain cases, the atomic system greatly benefits from microgravity environments, which provides long observation times, with more dilute atomic clouds and colder temperatures than can be achieved in ground-based systems. For this reason, NASA launched the Cold Atom Lab in 2018, where it has been making ultracold clouds of atoms in purely magnetic traps onboard the International Space Station. With complex experiments conducted so remotely, it has been necessary to build accurate computational models of the system to plan experiments. This poster will cover the basic process of how to create ultracold atoms, as well as provide information on recent updates to the project.
