Experimental Results of a Thermal Battery

Development of novel, sustainable energy solutions is vital to global energy challenges. We are developing a thermal battery [1,2] that derives its power from an internally generated concentration difference. A critical feature of this battery is its chemically asymmetric membrane, which contains an asymmetric distribution of bonding sites that, when combined with an electrolytic solution, creates an ion concentration gradient which in turn can be utilized to generate electrical power. This novel feature gives it advantages in efficiency and economy over other types of rechargeables.
