Single-Photon Quantum Optics with Gian Atoms*

The standard/textbook analysis of atom-light interaction relies on applying the so-called "dipole approximation," which assumes the effective size of the atom to be orders of magnitude smaller than the wavelength of the light it is interacting with. However, with the recent developments in quantum circuits, it is now possible to consider "giant atoms" which no more follow the dipole approximation [1]. In this talk, I will briefly discuss how such giant atoms are prepared and the physics behind their interaction with waveguided single photons in the side-coupling configuration.
