Al Reaction Products*

Systems involving unbound and weakly-bound are of continuing interest. This work investigates data from one such system, from an experiment performed at the National Superconducting Cyclotron Laboratory (NSCL) at Michigan State University. In particular, we have examined and simulated ³⁶Si and ³⁴Al Beam products, produced by collision of a ⁴⁸Ca parent beam and a beryllium production target. The beams of interest then impinged on an alternating segmented target, consisting of 4 Si-PIN detectors(140 micrometers thick each) and 3 beryllium targets(199 mg/cm2 thick each). The resulting neutron-unbound excited states emit one or more neutrons, which were measured in the MoNA-LISA scintillator array; This emission left behind a charged fragment ion, such as ³²Mg and ³³Mg which was deflected by a superconducting sweeper magnet into charged particle detectors. The neutrons and fragments, when detected in coincidence, can be examined by invariant mass analysis to determine their properties, and using these data we can determine the neutron-unbound nuclide’s decay energy prior to neutron emission. Current status of data analysis, decay energy reconstruction, and simulation of these products will be presented.
