We present evidence that, in the presence of cross flow, the large scale ripples are advected at a fraction of the mean spanwise velocity and with a specific spanwise wavelength linearly proportional to the separation length.
The numerically computed peak frequencies very well conform with the predictive formula of Ceci et al. (J. Fluid Mech. 2023, vol. 956, R1).
Based on the actual findings we suggest that the same phenomenology found in the supersonic regime also holds in the hypersonic one.
