Fluid Dynamics Monitoring using Internet of Things (IoT) Technology*

Fluid dynamics is essential for understanding many environmental challenges including but not limited to carbon footprint and water quality issues. Pollution in both air and water can trigger many respiratory and neurological disorders which can be life threatening. Pollution can cause various diseases not only to humans, but it also can affect animals and other species, which in turn affects the entire life cycle ecosystem. In this study, we use an array of  high precision embedded sensors to record real-time data that can be used to assess the indoor air and water quality. These sensors are integrated in a cloud-based platform using internet of things (IoT) technology for accurate monitoring of several fluid quality indicators. For example, sensors for measuring water turbidity, pH, conductivity, biological oxygen demand, suspended solids, carbon dioxide, ozone and organic volatile compounds and several others are used to build a custom-based monitoring station. The collected data from this environmental indoor station can be used to help and educate the public to take enough precautions to avoid chronic and acute diseases related to air and water pollution.
