Deeply Degenerate Fermi Gasses of Strontium-87 in a Magic-Clock Tweezer Array*

Many-body simulations of interacting fermions currently rely on degenerate fermi gasses of ultracold atoms trapped in optical lattices. However, adiabatically loading the ultracold gasses into tightly focused optical tweezers can lower the degeneracy parameter and enhance the fermi interactions. We demonstrate loading a three spin-state mixture of strontium-87 atoms from a moderately degenerate fermi gas (T/T_F~0.3) with a temperature, T~33nK, into a reconfigurable array of optical tweezers. Adiabatic compression further lowers the degeneracy parameter to T/T_F~0.015 for each individual tweezer. The optical tweezers are tuned to a novel magic wavelength of the ¹S₀ - ³P₀ clock transition ⁸⁷Sr near 497.4333(5)nm allowing us to probe fermi interactions through spectroscopy of the ultra-narrow transition. Utilizing the occupation basis of the fermionic tweezers, we propose this platform can be used to implement tunneling and interaction gates of fermionic quantum registers for variational quantum eigensolvers.
