Q3.00002: Measurement of Single Target-Spin Asymmetry in Semi-Inclusive Pion Electroproduction on a Transversely Polarized $^3$He Target Yi Qiang We recently measured the neutron target single spin asymmetry in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic $^{3}He^{\uparrow}(e,e'\pi^{+/-})X$ reactions with a transversely polarized $^3$He target. The experiment was performed at Jefferson Lab Hall A from October 2008 to February 2009 using a 40 cm polarized $^3$He target. The pions were detected in the left high-resolution spectrometer in coincidence with the scattered electrons detected by the BigBite spectrometer. The kinematic coverage focuses on the valence quark region, $x = 0.13\sim 0.41$, at $Q2=1.31\sim 3.10~(\mathrm{GeV}/c)2$. With good particle identification using a RICH detector and an aerogel threshold Cherenkov counter, data on the kaons were obtained at the same time. The data from this experiment, when combined with the world data, will provide constraints on the transversity and Sivers distributions on both $u$-quark and $d$-quark in the valence region. Q3.00003: Measurements of Single and Double Spin Asymmetry in pp Elastic Scattering in the Coulomb Nuclear Interference Region at RHIC Y. Makdisi, I. Alekseev, A. Bazilevsky, K. Boyle, A. Bravar, G. Bunce, S. Dhawan, K.O. Eyser, R. Gill, W. Haeberli, H. Huang, O. Jinnouchi, A. Kponou, I. Nakagawa, A. Nass, H. Okada, N. Saito, E.J. Stephenson, D. Svirida, T. Wise, J. Wood, A. Zelenski We report a precise measurement of the single spin A$_{N}$ and double spin A$_{NN}$ asymmetries in pp elastic scattering in the Coulomb Nuclear Interaction region at several energies utilizing a polarized hydrogen jet target and the polarized proton beam at the Relativistic Heavy Ion Collider. We determine the energy dependence of the hadronic single spin flip and double spin flip amplitudes and the implication for Pomeron and Oderon exchanges. [Preview Abstract] |

Q3.00004: Collins Effects in the Collinear Factorization Approach Feng Yuan, Bowen Xiao, Jian Zhou In this talk, we will present our recent research on the Collins effects in the collinear factorization approach. By explict calculations, it is demonstrated that the transverse momentum dependent and collinear factorization approaches are consistent in the description of the Collins effects in the semi-inclusive hadron production in deep inelastic scattering. Collins effects contributions to the single spin asymmetry in inclusive hadron production in pp scattering will also be discussed. [Preview Abstract] |

Q3.00005: Measurement of Double Spin Asymmetry $A_{LT}$ in Semi-Inclusive Pion Electroproduction on a Transversely Polarized $^3$He Target Jin Huang We recently measured the neutron double spin asymmetry $\mathcal{A}_{LT}$ in the semi-inclusive deep inelastic $^{3}He^{\uparrow}(\overrightarrow{e},e'\pi^{+/-})X$ reactions with polarized electron beam and a transversely polarized $^3$He target. The measurement was performed in Jefferson Lab Hall A, using 6 GeV polarized electron beam scattering on a 40 cm polarized $^3$He target. The produced pions were detected in the left high- resolution spectrometer in coincidence with the scattered electrons detected by the BigBite spectrometer. The kinematic coverage focused on the valence quark region, $x = 0.13 \sim 0.41$, at $Q^2=1.31 \sim 3.10~(\mathrm{GeV}/c)^2$. This data, when combined with the world data, will provide constraints on the $g^{q}_{1T}$ distribution functions, which describes longitudinal polarization of quarks in the transversely polarized target, for both $u$-quark and $d$- quark in the valence region. Experiment setup and preliminary data analysis progress will be presented in this talk. [Preview Abstract] |

Q3.00006: Measurement of the Target Single Spin Asymmetry $A_y^n$ in the Inclusive DIS $n^{\uparrow}$(e,e') Reaction from a Vertically Polarized $^3He$ Target Joseph Katich We have recently measured the target SSA $A_y^n$ in the inclusive DIS $n^{\uparrow}$(e,e') reaction using a vertically Polarized $^3He$ Target. The measurement was performed parasitically during Jefferson Lab Hall A Experiment E06-010 from October 2008 to February 2009, using 6 GeV electron beam scattering on a 40 cm polarized $^3$He target. The goal of the experiment was to improve the upper limit of $A_y^n$ by two orders of magnitude compared with the SLAC proton experiment performed 35 years ago. A non-zero result would be a sign of chiral symmetry breaking that is beyond the leading twist QCD picture of DIS. Analysis progress will be reported. [Preview Abstract] |
