L14.00001: Measurement of $W$ boson mass at D0 Jun Guo We used the data collected by the D0 Run II detector during the 2001-2006 period of the Fermilab Tevatron Collider to determine the mass of the W boson, with an integrated luminosity of 1 fb$^{-1}$. We will present the result for the direct measurment using the electron decay channel. [Preview Abstract] |

L14.00002: Studies of Z + photon Production at CDF Jon Poage, Wes Ketchum, Zaid Alawi, Vadim Rusu, Young-Kee Kim We study the properties of the Z + photon production from proton and anti-proton collisions at the Center-of-Mass of 1.96 TeV at the Fermilab Tevatron using the CDF II detector. We analyze a sample corresponding to an integrated luminosity of $3.1 fb^{-1}$. We select events in which the Z boson decays leptonically by requiring two electrons or two muons to be identified in the detector, while also requiring the presence of an additional photon. We compare this selection to the expected Standard Model contribution, and compare various kinematic variables between the data and the Standard Model predictions. [Preview Abstract] |

L14.00003: Measurement of the $WZ$ diboson cross section at D0 James Kraus Measurements of the $WZ$ diboson cross section are interesting both as a test of the standard model and as a potential indicator of new physics. We present a measurement of the $WZ$ cross section using $\ell\ell\ell \nu$ decays in $p\overline{p}$ collisions at $\sqrt{s}$ = 1.96 TeV using 3.6 fb$^{-1}$ of data taken at the D0 experiment at the Tevatron. Here, $\ell$ means either an electron or a muon. [Preview Abstract] |

L14.00004: Measurement of the ZZ/WZ Diboson cross section in leptons+jets final states at CDF Wesley Ketchum, Zaid Alawi, Young-Kee Kim, Vadim Rusu We present the first experimental measurement on the cross section of ZZ/WZ Diboson production in the charged leptons+jets channel with 3.1 fb$^{-1}$ of integrated luminosity of the Fermilab Tevatron's proton-antiproton collisions taken by the CDF II detector. We select events by identifying two charged leptons whose reconstructed invariant mass lies within 60 GeV and 120 GeV, and also identifying at least two jets. We use an artificial neural network trained on variables relating to the jets, including kinematic variables and a new variable that discriminates between jets originating from quarks and gluons, to help distinguish between the desired signal and the dominant background, Z + jets. L14.00005: Trilinear gauge couplings measurements in proton-antiproton production of $WZ$ diboson final states Ketino Kaadze The standard model (SM) makes precise predictions of the coupling between the $W$ and $Z$ bosons, the trilinear gauge coupling (TGC). We determine new limits on the value of the TGC using recent results of the $WZ$ cross section measurement in the trilepton channel from the D0 experiment at the Tevatron, and compare these limits to the values predicted by the SM. L14.00006: Search for $WZ$ in the $\ell \nu b\overline{b}$ Final State at CDF Justin Keung An important search channel for the Higgs boson is associated $WH$ production with subsequent decays of $W \rightarrow \ell \nu$ and $H \rightarrow b\overline{b}$. The resulting final state is shared with standard model $WZ$ production which necessarily must be well-understood. We discuss an important cross-check of the $WH$ search which is to apply the same techniques to measuring the $WZ$ contribution to our event candidate sample. The identification of $b$-quark jets is an important component of searches for a Higgs boson with a mass below 130~GeV/$c^2$. We present results from an improved, artificial neural network $b$-quark jet identification algorithm. Two important quantities associated with the algorithm require calibration from data: the efficiency for identifying a b-quark jet and the corresponding rate of misidentification. These quantities are measured using a data sample heavily enriched in jets from semileptonic $B$ hadron decays. The transverse momentum of the lepton relative to the jet is used to discriminate between $b$-quark jets and lighter quark jets. [Preview Abstract] |

L14.00007: In-Situ Calorimeter Calibration at the ATLAS Detector with $Z \rightarrow ee$ Events Kathryn Tschann-Grimm This presentation will describe the in-situ calibration of the ATLAS electromagnetic calorimeter using $Z \rightarrow ee$ events. The method is based on constraining the invariant mass distribution of the two decay electrons to the known $Z$-boson line shape. Monte carlo results will be presented showing that this $Z \rightarrow ee$ calibration method can achieve a long-range calorimeter resolution term of 0.5\%, the value calculated as necessary to achieve the ATLAS experiment's physics goals (such as detection $H \rightarrow \gamma\gamma$). Performance and comparison of different methods to extract the calibration constants will be shown. [Preview Abstract] |

L14.00008: Studies of final-state photon radiation in the process $p\,p\hskip-7pt\hbox{$^{^{(\!-\!)}}$} \rightarrow W^{\pm} \rightarrow \ell^{\pm}\nu$ Catherine Bernaciak, Doreen Wackeroth We study the effects of multiple soft, collinear photon radiation off a final state lepton in the process $p\,p\hskip-7pt\hbox{$^{^{(\!-\!)}}$}\rightarrow W^{\pm} \rightarrow \ell^{\pm}\nu$, as implemented in the MC program WGRAD3. EW virtual effects as well as up to two hard photons radiating off a final-state lepton are also included. These effects are compared with the MC program HORACE which also includes the complete ${\cal O}(\alpha)$ EW radiative corrections to $p\,p\hskip-7pt\hbox{$^{^{(\!-\!)}}$}\rightarrow W^{\pm} \rightarrow \ell^{\pm}\nu$ and multiple photon radiation. L14.00009: A precision measurement of the mass of the $W$ boson at the DZero experiment Jyotsna Osta The D0 experiment's measurement of the mass of the $W$ boson in the electron decay channel is currently in its final stages. This precision measurement is the result of an analysis of 1.0 fb$^{-1}$ of the Tevatron data taken between 2002 and 2006. One of the potential sources of significant systematic error in this measurement lies in the modeling of the hadronic recoil. We present the salient features and results of this analysis with an emphasis on the recoil. [Preview Abstract] |
