J4.00001: Upcoming Ground-based Surveys Designed to Constrain the Nature of the Dark Energy. Invited Speaker: Ground-based astronomical measurements currently provide some of the most direct constraints on the nature of the dark energy. I will briefly review the basic techniques currently being used (Type Ia supernovae, baryon acoustic oscillations...) and promising approaches being developed for the future (all-sky weak lensing, galaxy cluster abundances...). I will also describe upcoming ground-based surveys (PanSTARRS, LSST, DES...) that will contribute to our understanding of the nature of the dark energy. [Preview Abstract] |

J4.00003: State of the Art in Weak Lensing Invited Speaker: After a brief review of weak lensing by large scale structures, I will present the most recent results from the Canada France Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey and the COSMOS survey. I will discuss the roadmap for the future lensing projects, SNAP and LSST and give a broad picture of where gravitational lensing is heading to. Emphasis will be put on challenges to meet for weak lensing to become a high precision cosmology tool. [Preview Abstract] |
