Analyzing Quantum Capacity Regions to Assist in the Development of Quantum Network Tomography Protocols*

With recent advances in quantum information science, efforts are shifting towards connecting quantum devices into networks for applications such as distributed quantum computing, quantum sensing, and quantum key distribution. As the number of physical testbeds distributing quantum information skyrockets, the ability to characterize the quality of a quantum network and its ability to perform becomes increasingly pressing. Quantum network tomography aims to characterize errors within network channels, but currently uses protocols that are resource intensive. Ideally, these protocols could be optimized if more information about the network was known before their implementation, potentially through information collected for other forms of network diagnostics such as capacity measurements. This work aims to analyze data collected in order to produce quantum capacity regions and observe to what extent it can be applied to quantum network tomography and channel characterization.
