The story of Mobius Photonics, Inc. is the story of a top-notch team of physicists and engineers who saw an opportunity to leverage the enormous investments made during the telecom boom in semiconductor diodes and optical fiber and deploy them in fiber-based light sources for a manufacturing sector facing continuing cost and quality challenges. An overview of this rapidly growing industry of ``fiber lasers'' will be given, and the unique advantages and challenges of a start-up will be addressed.
