W10C.00001: Partnering Effectively with Schools of Education Invited Speaker: Brian Thoms This panel will discuss experiences and lessons learned regarding creating and sustaining effective partnerships between physics departments and colleges of education in the production of highly-qualified physics teachers. Among the issues to be discussed are strategies for building collegial relationships and avoiding turf battles across college lines, effectively working with deans and other administrators, recognizing how to leverage different reward structures, establishing common goals and common strategies, and using data to produce consensus. The effectiveness of joint appointments, co-teaching, and committee service in building partnerships will also be discussed. [Preview Abstract] |
