This presentation touches on the development, purpose, and criticisms of the patent system, covers the various roles that patents can play in the innovation process, and delves into the practical considerations for pursuing patent protection and solving the entrepreneurial resource optimization problem. Time permitting, the presentation will conclude with anecdotes about (anonymized) entrepreneurs and businesses who have employed the patent system for good or ill. Attendees will learn about real-world uses and usage of the patent system free of sensationalism and hype.
