P3.00001: Best Recruitment Practices Theodore Hodapp, Lance Cooper, Ramon Lopez, Kate Scholberg While competition for slots in physics graduate programs remains high for many universities, building a cohort of students that will yield highly successful researchers is not equivalent to selecting the highest GPA students. Nor will we automatically find individuals who will compliment the strengths of the department or university. This panel will discuss approaches that balance the competing needs and goals of the department with the realities of graduate selection processes in place throughout the United States, while building a diverse talented pool of candidates.
