Neutrinoless double beta decay is being investigated by experiments in underground laboratories around the world employing different candidate isotopes. I present a summary of the current status and sensitivities of such searches and describe the most promising next generation experiments under way which are designed to reach Majorana neutrino mass sensitivities of a few tens meV.
