Here, we present our project Rymax-One (www.rymax.one) – which aims at building a quantum computer specifically designed to solve optimization problems which are intractable on classical devices. To achieve this goal, we are using trapped arrays of ultracold Ytterbium-171 atoms, whose level structure enables the realization of qubits with long coherence times and high-fidelity gate operations. This will enable us to realize a scalable quantum computing platform to explore the performance of novel quantum algorithms and demonstrate the potential of quantum computing to tackle real-world problems.
*This project is funded by the Federal Ministry of Education and Research under grant number 13N16138.
