W3C.00001: Workshop on ``Grad School 102: Applying and Thriving'' Invited Speaker: Lance Cooper This workshop will focus on how to write an effective graduate school application and succeed in a graduate physics program. Topics will include writing effective personal statements, selecting recommendation letter writers, identifying graduate programs that match your research interests, identifying good study habits for the GRE, selecting research advisors, and handling the stress of graduate school. Varied perspectives and resources will be offered by experienced admissions directors and a recent PhD graduate. The workshop format will be a mix of brief presentations followed by an audience question and answer period. Presenters: Abdelkader Kara, Graduate Program Director and Graduate Admissions Chair in the Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida; Tommy Boykin II, Research Associate in the Department of Physics at the University of Central Florida; and Lance Cooper, Associate Head for Graduate Programs in the Department of Physics at the University of Illinois at Urbana-Champaign.
