X7.00001: Physics and Physicists in Russia Invited Speaker: Vladimir Shiltsev This is an overview talk on Physics in Russia. I will briefly review the first two centuries of Russian science (1724 -1917), unprecedented boost of physics in the USSR and equally tectonic (but negative) developments after perestroika (financial disaster and creation of powerful Russian scientific diaspora). The main part of the talk will be about current status of physics and physicists in Russia: scope, facts and numbers, leading institutes, publications and journals, Int’l cooperation, and the most recent reforms initiated by the Government in 2013.
