C01.00001: Research Collaboration Opportunities with Los Alamos Alan Hurd Academic collaborations have been the lifeblood of Los Alamos National Laboratory (LANL) for over 75 years. The laboratory is actively seeking partnerships and talented personnel through a variety of programs, which will be described in this talk. The National Security Education Center (NSEC) facilitates many of LANL's programs by serving as a collaborative hub for students, postdocs, and faculty from around the region. Students engage in specialized education, hands-on training opportunities, and the development of diverse exciting research projects, such as machine learning, monitoring the structural health engineered structures, new computer architectures for massive datasets, quantum computing, inexact computing, advanced studies in plutonium science, specialized space mission instruments, and additive manufacturing to name a few. Guided by our missions NSEC's strategic programs employ students, postdocs, and faculty in innovative research investments in the future of the Laboratory, helping it to meet future core workforce needs and to retain hard-to-replace expertise. Among our efforts, we host international conferences, topical workshops, and active visiting scholar and joint appointment exchanges with researchers from academic institutions. [Preview Abstract] |
